Advance space science.
Exciting discoveries in space physics are occurring every day. What we have learned about Earth's space environment is helping us find our way as we explore other planets, solar systems, and stars.

Facilitate communication and collaboration in science.
The Institute adheres to the principle that free communication of ideas and dynamic collaboration create the most fertile ground for scientific progress.

Promote and encourage involvement of students and young researchers.
The Institute for Magnetospheric Physics is dedicated to advancing the knowledge, expertise, and careers of young magnetospheric scientists.

Transfer knowledge to the next generation of space scientists.
Space physics is approaching a state of transition. Many of the pioneers and founders of our field are reaching retirement age. It is time for us to compile irreplaceable knowledge and pass it on to the next generation.
